First Week in Arizona

I just finished my first week in Arizona, and so far it’s been a blast. I got settled in at the hospital with a few days of orientation, and I am starting to get the hang of things. It is very different from my previous job, but I think that I will learn a lot in the next 3 months here.

Over the weekend I hiked the trail behind the Navajo museum, although the trail signs ended and I was unable to find the window rock, (even though I think I was VERY close) the views were still amazing. I had been planning on visiting the museum and zoo as well, but the hike took longer than expected so I did not end up doing those this weekend.

This weekend I also went to a camp meeting/ memorial/ revival event for a relative of one of the people I work with. On Friday night there was a service with a lot of singing in Navajo that was pretty neat to go to even though I didn’t understand any of what was being said. There was a lot packed in on Saturday. I helped serve up plates, and got to try mutton and fry bread and Navajo tortillas (all of which were delicious). Saturday afternoon’s events started off with a dummy roping competition, and I tried out roping and even end up placing 3rd in the competition.

Then there was a food scramble, which was a family tradition for my coworker’s family, and basically was a bunch of items laid out in the middle of the tent, and when they said go everyone raced to pick up as many items as they could carry with just their hands from the middle. It was a lot of fun, and I ended up getting some pretty cool stuff from the scramble.

I helped my friend cook hamburgers and hotdogs for dinner for all the people at the event and helped serve the meal again. Sunday there was a meal for Father’s day, and then it was cleaning up. It was pretty hot on Sunday, and we decided to cool of and relax a little so we also went and saw Wonder Woman at the theater which I really enjoyed. Overall it was a really cool to see and be a part of the celebration, and I am really glad that I was invited.

I’m still trying to figure out what my next adventures will be. There are just so many things I want to see and do.
